The primary role of this position is to evaluate and review database information to ensure high levels of data quality, analyze and produce required queries/reports in response to business user needs, and interface with business users to research and correct data inaccuracies. 

Education Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or the equivalent knowledge is preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the area of Information Technology is required. Candidates not possessing a degree must have a minimum of four years of relevant information technology experience.  Requires a working knowledge of Microsoft SQL programming language, relational database design and structure, Business Intelligence practices, and System Development Life Cycle.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent will assist with the monitoring of the quality of data stored in TRS databases, work with users to rectify inaccuracies of production data, provide appropriate reports to users and management and provide assistance with all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.  In addition, the incumbent is required to support the application development programming staff by providing technical assistance in effective and efficient data utilization techniques and will be responsible for researching and interpreting technical documentation, suggesting recommendations that support organizational needs.   

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

The incumbent must possess good organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with others and communicate complex information at a high level.  A thorough knowledge of Windows servers/operating systems, client/server computing, MS SQL Server 2014/2016, database concepts, structures and SQL language is required.

Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Database Manager, the Data Analyst is responsible for evaluating and reviewing database information to ensure high levels of data quality, analyzing and producing required queries/reports in response to business user needs, and interfacing with business users to research and correct data inaccuracies.  This position is accountable for maintaining an effective working relationship, and open communication with the Database Manager, other members of the database team, and the TRS user community as a whole.

Nature and Scope:

The major function of this position is to assist with the monitoring of the quality of the data stored in TRS databases, work with users to rectify inaccuracies of production data, provide appropriate reports to users and management, and provide assistance with all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.  The incumbent is required to support the application development programming staff by providing technical assistance in effective and efficient data utilization techniques.  This position will also be charged with researching and interpreting technical documentation, suggesting recommendations that support organizational needs and communicating complex information at a high level. 

The incumbent must possess good organizational skills, the ability to work and communicate effectively with others, and have a thorough knowledge of windows servers/operating systems, client/server computing, MS SQL Server 2014/2016, database concepts, structures and SQL language is required.  The incumbent must have working knowledge of Agile principles and Scrum method.

The greatest challenge of this position is to evaluate, review and report on data ensuring high levels of data quality.   Another challenge of this position is to organize and prioritize job responsibilities while coping with multiple demands, which may be the result of mandatory deadlines.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure the stability and reliability of data quality via ongoing data review and analysis.
  2. Interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques and providing ongoing reports.
  3. Provide guidance and training to the programming staff for effective and efficient use of database tools and resources.
  4. Study advanced techniques and reference materials, which are pertinent to the job; attend classes/seminars covering such topics as data cleansing and data archival.
  5. Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution times, and suggest efficiency improvements.
  6. Analyze SQL coding techniques, developer feedback, and performance issues, and suggest recommendations to the Application Development Manager.
  7. Assist the Database Manager, Database Administrator and Senior Database Administrator in developing long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with user and IT management staff to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  8. Conduct research and make recommendations on database products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  9. Assist with the resolution of technical programming and system software issues with outside vendors.
  10. Perform test deployment tasks.
  11. Assist with database monitoring and maintenance procedures in the absence of the Database Administrator.
  12. Assist with the maintenance of a data dictionary.
  13. Assist with the maintenance of a data archival system.
  14. Assist with Database design for ongoing development efforts.
  15. Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services is desired for this position.
  16. Candidates with experience in Power BI will be preferred for this opportunity.
  17. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
