This position also assists in the performance of field audits and employer-training meetings.
Education Requirements:
Requires completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, math, economics, or related field.
Experience:
Two years of experience in an accounting or auditing position is preferred.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible for performing assigned audit projects and tasks in accordance with organizational policies and sound audit practices, focusing principally on detection and correction of errors and recommendations for solutions. This position will assist in the performance of field audits including summarization of findings, recommendations for improving TRS reporting and preparing the audit letter. This position may assist with employer meetings by providing training, reviewing the district’s current reporting practices, discussing recent changes and answering questions regarding reporting issues. Also, this position is responsible for preparing summaries and correspondence resulting from annual report audits, supplementary report audits and employer inquiries. Off-site travel may be required.

Job Description
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Employer Services Manager, the Employer Services Auditor I performs a variety of routine auditing functions for TRS to ensure salary and service credit information reported by TRS-covered employers complies with the Illinois Pension Code and the related administrative rules. This position also assists in the performance of field audits and employer training.
Nature and Scope:
This position is primarily responsible for auditing employer’s annual reports of earnings and supplementary reports, conducting in-house audits of member contracts, and assisting in the performance of field audits and employer training. Overnight travel may be required. The field audits, employer training and audits of employer’s annual reports of earnings, supplementary reports, and member contracts are conducted in accordance with organizational policies and sound audit practices.
The principal focus of the field audits and in-house audits is error detection and correction. The principal focus of the employer training is to provide training on TRS reporting requirements and member and employer contributions. This position is also responsible for preparing the summaries and correspondence resulting from the field audits, employer inquiries and audits of employer’s annual reports of earnings, supplementary reports and member contracts. The incumbent also responds to requests for information received during field audits, employer training and to inquiries from employers and members contacting TRS offices.
The greatest challenge of this position is to complete large volumes of work, at a quick pace, without sacrificing quality.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Maintain an understanding of statutory requirements, board rules, policies and procedures that determine creditable earnings and service credit.
- Assist in the performance of field audits, in accordance with the audit program, including summarization of findings, recommendations for improving TRS reporting and preparing the audit letter.
- Provide employer training of TRS policies and procedures as described in the Employer Guide.
- Conduct audits of employer’s annual reports of earnings, which include the review of the retirement contribution compliance questionnaires.
- Conduct multiple employer research.
- Audit supplementary reports submitted by TRS-covered employers.
- Perform in-house audits of members’ salary and service credit information.
- Resolve problems of incorrect reporting with employers. Determine appropriate follow-up.
- Process employer’s reports of adjustments to earnings.
- Provide assistance to employers regarding current service reporting requirements including automated reporting and the employer’s reports of adjustments to earnings, excess salary increases and granted sick leave days via oral and written communication in a clear and professional manner.
- Provide assistance to employers, members and annuitants regarding current service, pension eligibility and post-retirement employment limitations via oral and written communication in a clear and professional manner.
- Assist other departments in answering inquiries and resolving employer related issues.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
