Teachers' Retirement System Honors Four Trustees for Distinguished Service and Leadership

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS) Board of Trustees recognized four trustees for their dedicated service to the System and Illinois public educators during its June Board meeting. Honored for their contributions were Board President Matthew Hunt, Trustee Maureen Mena, Trustee Maria "Mia" Jazo-Harris and Trustee Kader Sakkaria.

TRS Reflects on the Recent Passing of Former Trustee Bob Lyons

We are deeply saddened by the passing of former TRS Trustee Robert “Bob” Lyons earlier this month. A longtime high school social science teacher and department chair, Bob dedicated his career to serving students and supporting education in Illinois. He spent more than three decades shaping young minds and strengthening school communities.

TRS Reports Fifth Consecutive Year of Funded Status Improvement

Springfield, IL – The Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois (TRS) reported a notable increase in its funded status for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, marking the fifth consecutive year of improvement. The funded ratio, calculated using the actuarial value of assets, has risen to 47.8 percent, up from 45.8 percent the previous year. The update was presented at the October 23–24 meeting of the TRS Board of Trustees.
